We make a significant impact
We are driven by the prospect of making a real contribution to lowering the climate impact associated with the world's need for electricity.
Our History

2011-2015

In 2011, Jan Skjoldhammer, driven by a vision to make a significant environmental impact, shifts his focus from a successful airline pilot career to entrepreneurship. This marks the inception of NoviOcean wave energy converter (WEC)

From 2012 to 2015, rigorous criteria are established—lighter, simpler, stronger, more durable, and based on proven components. After overcoming challenges and iterations, Jan achieves success with the design—a large rectangular float and the ‘Inverted Hydro Power Plant at Sea (HPAS concept).’ Thus, NoviOcean, our groundbreaking cleantech solution, is born.

2016-2018

In 2016, Jan Skjoldhammer, having found success in property development, passionately invests in his renewable energy vision. Novige AB is officially founded, backed by two international patents and collaboration with three Swedish universities.

By 2018, 30 MSc students and 6 professors contribute to NoviOcean WEC’s development. Successful dry lab physical tests at KTH Royal Institute of Technology validate the concept. Ongoing work includes designing, constructing, and testing the 1:5 scale prototype.

2023-2024

In 2023, NoviOcean is developing a 1 MW HYBRID converter, combining wave, wind, and solar energies. The innovative system features 650 kW wave, 300 kW wind, and 50 kW solar capacities, with impressive environmental metrics, dimensions of 38 x 9 x 4 / 12 meters, and a weight of 120 tons. It can lift 600 tons, achieving a LCOE of €200 from start, hitting 100 after 100 MW deployed, then lowe.

In 2024, NoviOcean proudly won the #StartUp4Climate Award, receiving 1 million SEK. The company is also proposing a pilot partnership with Renewable Offshore Energy Companies for co-locations in the Canaries and a multitude of locations in Europe, showcasing its commitment to sustainable energy innovation.

F.A.Q.

NoviOcean’s innovative Hybrid Energy Converter (NHEC) harnesses the combined power of wave, wind, and solar energy. This groundbreaking technology delivers efficient and cost-effective renewable energy, paving the way for a sustainable future.

NoviOcean HEC delivers double the power output per sea area compared to wind power. Its hybrid design (wave, wind, solar) and efficient use of infrastructure lead to a lower Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) in early evolution.

Noviocean HEC is easy to produce, install, and maintain due to its modular design and well-proven parts. It boasts a low environmental footprint and superior power-to-weight ratio compared to offshore wind.

NoviOcean offers competitive development costs, with LCOE reaching €100/MWh after only 100 units deployed, then lower. Investment benefits include attractive incentive programs, expected high profits, participation in a meaningful and scaleable clean energy solution, and not the least, extremely positive marketing effects for partners and users.

NoviOcean is in Stage 4 (TRL 7), developing a 1:1 scale pilot to demonstrate real-world performance and pave the way for commercial deployment.

NoviOcean aims to deliver stable ocean energy at a lower cost than offshore wind and secure 0.5 GW of contracted capacity by 2030.

NoviOcean envisions having 10 GW deployed by 2050, capturing 25% of the EU's 2050 target and generating €30 billion in sales within Europe alone. The global market potential is three times larger.
