Innovating for a Greener Future: Novige Competes in Startup4Climate Challenge Join Novige in Accelerating the Energy Transition with NoviOcean Novige is presented once more in the Startup4climate challenge We are pleased to be a contestant in the Startup4climate competition, Sweden’s largest innovation challenge within the energy sector, organized by GodEl and Ellevio. The purpose of this challenge is to promote and support clean energy solutions and innovations that have the highest potential in accelerating the global energy transition. All innovations and startups in the competition are presented on We Don’t Have Time, a social network dedicated to increasing awareness about the climate crisis and its negative consequences. Winners of Startup4Climate will take home two million SEK to help speed up the development of their cleantech solution. Our profile on this platform reads: “When the wind is not blowing for ten days a month and when the sun is not shining, that is when fossils are burned the most, at the highest cost for the climate and the consumers. Exactly in the same days and hours is when wave energy delivers the most.” With the right support, we aim to reach a minimum global cumulative deployed capacity of 4 GW by 2050 for NoviOcean, (10% of the target set by the European Commission). According to our estimations, this target roughly amounts to 12 € Billion in sales, providing the perfect opportunity for one or maximum two global partners and/or VCs to enter this vast market with us for the best of the climate. Transforming Renewable Energy: Novige’s Milestone Grant for Wave Energy Converter Development Pioneering Clean Energy Solutions with NoviOcean NO500 Pilot Project Novige AB receives a multi-million EUR grant to build its first full-scale 500 kW pilot Wave Energy Converter (WEC) Novige AB received a 2.1 million EUR grant from the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) under the LIFE programme to design, build, deploy, test, and certify its first full-scale pilot WEC unit, NoviOcean NO500 in an offshore test site by 2025/26. NoviOcean WEC (rated at 500 kW) will utilize a low-weighted 38×7 square meter rectangular float and well-proven parts to produce clean/stable electricity at a commercially viable cost. Simple design, less use of materials, and recyclability, along with an effective global licensing strategy will facilitate local manufacturing, operation, and decommissioning using readily available resources. More details on the upcoming stages of building and deployment of the pilot unit will be disseminated on a continued basis to various project stakeholders. The purpose of the challenge is to promote and support clean energy solutions and innovations that have the highest potential in accelerating the global energy transition. All innovations and startups in the competition are presented on We Don’t Have Time, a social network dedicated to increasing awareness about the climate crisis and its negative consequences. The winner of Startup4Climate will take home two million Swedish crowns to help speed up the development of their cleantech solution. “Tackling the climate crisis is very much about finding and scaling up new solutions, and that is exactly the criteria we can deliver on. The other nominated contributions also have strong solutions, but we are convinced that our solution, NoviOcean will help accelerate the necessary energy revolution. The potential for wave power is enormous…”, says Jan Skjoldhammer, CEO and founder of Novige AB. During the summer, Novige’s wave power concept, NoviOcean, underwent extensive tests at the ECN’s Research Laboratory in Hydrodynamics, Energetics & Atmospheric Environment (LHEEA) in Nantes, France. All results were satisfactory, and several important conclusions were drawn. Novige plans to have the first full-scale NoviOcean unit developed and ready for deployment by 2024 with a total cost of 5 million euros, which is a fraction of what other wave energy developers have used so far. ovige AB Secures 4.25 Million SEK Funding to Propel NoviOcean Wave Energy Development “Accelerating Progress Toward a Sustainable Future Wave energy developer Novige AB moving forward, awarded 4.25 million SEK Novige AB, with its concept NoviOcean got a budget of 5.6 MSEK approved by the Swedish Energy Agency, where 1.35 will be provided by the company. 1.1 MSEK will go to Uppsala and KTH University for further research and work into various aspects of the novel concept. Presently the development is at TRL 5/6, the unit having been prototype tested in both wave tank and offshore in its basic version, scale 1:5. The funding will provide means for further fine-tuning of the float and PTO/machinery, to increase effectiveness and prolong lifetime for various components. – To be able to stay below 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius of global warming, it is crucial to also utilize the enormous potential of the oceans very soon, not in two decades from now. Therefore, we need to move fast, and NoviOcean has an unusual potential to succeed in this. Funding being crucial to move forward quickly.
