Navigating Success: Novige’s Collaboration with Marine Energy Alliance and BlueInvest Accelerating Marine Energy Innovation for a Sustainable Future Marine Energy Alliance and BlueInvest in collaboration with Novige Marine Energy Alliance (MEA) is a European collaborative project for innovations in marine energy technology. The purpose of the project is to give a number of companies in marine technology the opportunity to accelerate commercialization. Through its participation in MEA, Novige AB will have access to world-leading expertise in marine energy development as well as the opportunity to work closely with a cross-border team of marine experts. At the same time, the European community BlueInvest joins Novige. – We are of course very happy about these two collaborations, as it will increase our competence in the business, but also specifically contribute with technical analyzes. The competition regarding support for projects from these actors is very fierce and we are therefore extremely proud to be selected. When we now both receive awards and are selected for these programs, it is a confirmation that more and more very significant players are beginning to see both the potential and the scalability of our product. It means a lot to us that BlueInvest sees the potential in marine technology in general and NoviOcean specifically, says Jan Skjoldhammer, owner, and founder of Novige. Earlier this summer, Jan Skjoldhammer was awarded the prestigious Mission Innovation Champion title for Sweden, the first in marine energy. Novige AB has recently received the award “Seal of Excellence” from the European Commission with the assessment “A high quality project”. Jan Skjoldhammer is also nominated for “Inventor of the Year” by Guldstänk, and for the 33-list / Ny Teknik. About MEA and BlueInvest The MEA consortium includes the Dutch Marine Energy Center (DMEC), the European Marine Energy Center (EMEC), the Center for Marine and Renewable Energy (MaREI), the Ecole Centrale de Nantes (ECN), Exceedence, INNOSEA, the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) and University of Edinburgh. The MEA project has a total budget of EUR 6 million and is financially supported by Interreg North West Europe, which provides EUR 3.6 million from ERDF financing. Via the European Commission, BlueInvest is an exclusive coaching program for small and medium-sized companies with great potential for innovative and sustainable products and solutions in marine energy. The project has a clear focus on giving the carefully selected companies tailor-made business support. Wave of Success: Novige AB Clinches Mission Innovation Champions Award Revolutionizing Clean Energy with Cutting-Edge Wave Power Technology Green Tech company Novige winner of prestigious Mission Innovation Champions Mission Innovation (MI) was launched at the Paris Climate Conference 2015 and is a global initiative of 24 countries and the European Commission. The Mission Innovation Champions award was established with the purpose of speeding up the pace of innovations in clean energy and is a global platform for sustainable energy solutions. This prestigious award is being awarded for the second year in a row, with this year’s winner being the Swedish wave power company, Novige. For centuries, attempts have been made to extract energy from the seas, but none have so far been proven to be economical. The fact that this jury, consisting of highly qualified professors and doctors in the field, chose Jan and his product as the very first marine energy solution, gives a hint about what is about to happen. – This is a long-awaited acknowledgment of the fact that our solution will accelerate the necessary energy revolution. The potential for wave power is enormous. It is an honor to be awarded this award and we look forward to being able to continue the development and eventually see our units produce huge amounts of clean and stable energy in all continents, says Jan Skjoldhammer, owner and founder of Novige AB. The 21 award nominees are comprised of both research and innovation as well as private players, with the common focus being innovations that drive the energy revolution intending to make energy more reliable, cleaner, cheaper, and more efficient. The jury consists of reputable experts from all over the world, all with long experience and expertise in the energy sector. The 21 Champions work in a variety of energy-related fields and industries. They are individuals with a track record of progressing creative new ideas that can drive the pace and scale of the clean energy revolution — they are the people inventing the products and services of the future or discovering the science that underpins them. “The Champions were selected through a rigorous international competition, including peer-to-peer reviews and evaluations by a diverse panel of experts from around the globe. Applications were evaluated based on the audaciousness and creativity of the ideas or solutions proposed, their potential impact and the vision of the candidates towards addressing climate change challenges in the energy sector through innovation. The digital launch ceremony for Mission Innovation Champions was held today on June 12 and was led by Mariya Gabriel, EU Commissioner for Research, Innovation, Education, and Culture. Key Note speaker was Javiera Aldunate Bengolea, Head of the Foreign Affairs office of the Ministry of Energy of Chile. Navigating Waves of Change: The Birth of NoviOcean’s Revolutionary Wave Energy Converter Jan Skjoldhammer’s Vision to Transform Energy with Innovation and Sustainability Economic success gave chance to change the energy industry After an economic success at a land deal, the plan was crystal clear for the environmentally engaged airline captain Jan Skjoldhammer. Instead of settling down, or continuing to fly, he decided to do something more meaningful with his time and capital. He would develop an innovative and revolutionary wave energy converter (WEC) with the potential to change the entire energy industry. Given Jan’s background as a pilot, he has a burning passion as well as deep expertise in engines, technology, the sea, and large powerful machines. This, combined with both his willingness and ability to contribute to technical solutions, initiated the idea of a high-performing wave energy converter. Wave energy technology, as such, is not new; it has been experimented with for a few hundred years but without any remarkable success. Other wave energy converters are, of course, out there, but usually, they are too heavy, fragile, complex, and expensive to manufacture, and above all, they provide far too little electrical energy. – I decided on a completely different approach with the conviction that to succeed, it must be lighter than others, to bring down the cost and to keep it so high in the water that it is not torn by the waves. Likewise, it should be simple, based on well-known technologies, have few parts, and have high efficiency, and not the least, be inexpensive in relation to its output, says Jan Skjoldhammer. With an awareness that solar and wind power will not suffice for the increased energy demand as well as the knowledge about the oceans’ potential, the foundation for the NoviOcean wave energy converter by Novige was established. – I and the team are convinced that different technologies complement each other, which is a must if we are to solve the climate challenges and the problems surrounding energy access, concludes Jan Skjoldhammer.
